Starting The New Year With a Black Belt Mindset

Back to work to officially start the year with a deep sense of gratitude. Grateful for the lessons and achievements of last year. Energized by what’s ahead.

My promise for this year is simple. No resolutions. Just showing up every day. Enjoying the moment. Growing mind, body, and spirit. No comparisons. Like a black belt, I only compare myself to who I was yesterday. Like a Stoic, I focus on what I can control and let the rest go.

My biggest wins in 2025 came back to the same place. Family. Presence. Values.

The highlight of the holidays was an RV trip through Georgia and North Carolina with my daughter, nephews, and niece visiting from Brazil. Eleven people in one RV. Tight space, long drives, a lot of laughs. One of those moments you don’t forget. This is what we live for.

At work, I’m excited about new opportunities, new team members joining my teams, new peers, and the chance to keep learning and practicing leadership at Databricks. Even more excited about the continued investments we’re making in the platform and the problems we’re helping customers solve.

One observation from the AI world. In 2025, more than half of enterprise AI initiatives never made it past pilot. Too much experimentation, not enough integration. My bet for 2026 is that this flips. Less hype, fewer demos, more systems quietly embedded into real workflows, delivering measurable value. The winners won’t be the flashiest models, but the teams who operationalize AI end to end.

Thank you to everyone who was part of my journey in 2025. Looking forward to what’s ahead.
